University Fire

Activities at the First Nations University of Canada were not affected by a small boiler-room fire. Fire crews arrived 6 minutes after the emergency call had been placed. They found fire conditions in the basement boiler room and a fair amount of smoke and steam because the sprinkler system had activated before the crews arrived.

The sprinklers helped to contain the fire, according to the fire crew. The fire was limited to the area immediately around the furnace. They add that had that system not been in place, there would have significant damage.

There were approximately 30 people in the building when the fire broke out and all were safely evacuated.
