| Factory Fires in Germany and The Netherlands |
|
German media report that on Sunday 15th July a fire destroyed the Altex textile factory in Gronau. A man who came to watch died of a heart attack. The fire alarm was raised at 21:22. Water could not extinguish the polypropylene balls stored to be processed at the factory so foam was used. There was no mention of a sprinkler system at the factory.
On 17th July a fire destroyed the Koma refrigeration company factory in
Roermond, The Netherlands. Soot particles were being analysed but it
could take a week to obtain the results. Meanwhile the local population
was advised not to eat home-grown vegetables nor to let children play
on the ground or in sandpits. Again there was no mention of a sprinkler
system at this factory.
